Engineered Farm Tracks, Mackenzie Basin

Value: $0.5m
When: 2015
Client: Simons Pass Station Ltd
Procon’s role: Cost estimating.  Value engineering of design solutions. Writing and negotiating construction contracts.  Management of tender process.  Construction supervision.  Engineer to Contract under NZS3910.

Description:
This was first phase of a robust farm track network required to support future farm development over this very large property. It needed to be strong enough to take heavy truck loading (and the option to seal at a later date) but without being over-engineered to keep costs reasonable. After preparing a simple but sufficiently detailed tender document, a tender was accepted for an alternative construction method utilising in-situ crushing of aggregate in the subgrade.   Essentially Procon found a happy medium between a fully engineered and documented design and an ‘agricultural’ solution - the result being a strong and safe farm track network, long design life, and minimal maintenance and longevity at an affordable cost.

Can Procon help with your next project?
